Main Features of the Río de la Plata Spanish and Slang
Características principales del español del Río de la Plata y lunfardo.

Lunfardo is the old city slang. Its authentic version is still predominant in the speech of the typical tango lover, usually in his or her 50's and up. In its origin, Lunfardo was mostly employed by middle and lower classes.

SOME FEATURES

A) Things are usually called by another name, as you can find in almost all tango lyrics. Some terms have become old-fashioned, however the following list is still popular:

batir (speak up, tell secrets, etc.)
boliche (discotheque, bar,etc.)
bondi (bus)
bulín (bachellor's apartment)
cafiyo (pimp, generally someone who does not work)
catrera (bed)
chabón (guy, man)
chambón (someone who does things fast and carelessly)
chamuyar (small talk - verb)
chamuyo or (small talk -noun)
che (hey! ,yo! )
fiaca (laziness, procrastination)
guita (money)
junar (see through intentions, etc.)
laburo (work)
la vieja (old lady: mother)
el viejo (old man: father)
los viejos (parents)
macana (inconvenience, problem) eg.¡Qué macana! (What a problem!)
macanudo (cool, fine)
mango (peso, the Argentine currency)
