My name is Veronica. I welcome you to our virtual English factory! As the course
coordinator, my task today is to let you know how the e-course works.
In a nutshell...
We will send you lessons every Wednesday, you will study them, do the assignment/s, and
send us your response via e-mail. We will check your answers, evaluate your progress, make
suggestions, and send you your next lesson.
And all the details...
M E C H A N I C S
Every Wednesday you will find a new session in your mailbox.
Ideally, successful content analysis and completion of "homework" will take an average
1.5 hours per week.
Each session is divided into 4 segments =
(1) TOPIC - a text which introduces the day's issue.
(2) LANGUAGE - a focus on grammar, verb tenses, functions and/or vocabulary.
(3) ASSIGNMENT - a task to solve, related to the topic and language segments. The
usual deadline to submit your work is the following Wednesday.
(4) INTEREST SECTIONS - the lighter side (games, quizzes, humor, links, web safari,
idioms and expressions, and more).
F e e d b a c k from your previous assignment is posted individually - in a separate
message - with comments and corrections on your work. You will find it by Friday morning.
VERY IMPORTANT ! Please do not send your assignments as attachments.
TODAY'S ASSIGNMENT
Part 1
At this point we would like to hear from you. That is why I invite you to submit a
"Participant's Profile" - a short text about yourself.
Some guidelines :
-Introduce yourself
-Include details about your work, as well as family and interests if you wish.
-Comment on special needs, writing tasks you encounter at work, what you would like to find
in this course, etc.
This is a free-style, informal task. However, the main idea is not only to get to know you,
but also check your English level.
Part 2
A brief technical questionaire for you to fill in :
1. Does your email software have HTML format? For instance, do you see the colors in this
message? (yes or no)_______
2. Can you display picture files on your computer? For example "bmp" in "paintbrush",
"photo editor", etc. (yes or no)_______
3. Can you play "wav" audio files on your computer? (yes or no)_______
4. Do you usually have problems with files attached? (they take a long time, you cannot
open them, etc. ) (yes or no)_______
